Starting your iPhone camera with your voice
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerSiri can open the Camera app, including in some modes, but may not take the photo for you. Voice Control (Settings › Accessibility › Voice Control) lets you tap on-screen buttons by speaking, which can include the shutter.
Siri
Saying something like ‘Open the camera’ or ‘Take a selfie’ opens the Camera app, often in the right mode. Whether it then takes the shot depends on your iOS version, so test it.
Voice Control
Voice Control lets you say ‘Tap’ followed by a button’s name, or show numbers or a grid over the screen and say a number. It’s an accessibility feature and works across apps.
Tips
- Turn Voice Control on before you set up.
- Use the timer as a backup.
- Speak clearly; background music can interfere.
In Music Wide Selfie
